Birthday boy Valentino Rossi was celebrating his 29th birthday on the opening day of the MotoGP Official Test in Jerez, and is hoping to give himself a late present tomorrow afternoon. The Fiat Yamaha rider has twice been a winner of the BMW M Award for the fastest man on track in a 40 minute timed shootout –most recently at last year's event in Jerez- and believes that he stands a good chance of a second successive triumph.

Bridgestone had done their best to give the five-time MotoGP World Champion something special on his big day, namely a new generation of qualifying tyres. However, the Italian wasn't overly impressed and may be asking for the receipt and a return to some of the more familiar compounds.

"With the race tyres I'm fast. We have to try to make them a little bit faster, especially on the entry to the corner, where I'm not at my maximum. We tried some qualifiers and they weren't very good, but I think that we have some better stuff for tomorrow," said Rossi, who went on to assess his chances of winning the BMW Z4 M Roadster tomorrow afternoon. Hear his thoughts on tomorrow's contest in the accompanying video.
