The first European on-track action of the 2008 MotoGP pre-season gets underway under bright blue skies at Jerez this morning with the full line-up of this years premier class participants in attendance at the Andalucian venue for the MotoGP Official Test.

Early points of interest will be the respective fitness levels of Repsol Hondas Dani Pedrosa and Kawasaki new boy John Hopkins, both of whom picked up injuries in testing sessions earlier this year.

Pedrosas metacarpal fracture sustained in Malaysia at the first test of 2008 and Hopkins injured groin - the result of a nasty highside crash at Phillip Island on 31st January - will both come under the spotlight as both riders attempt to recuperate fully ahead of the first race of the year under the floodlights on 9th March in Qatar.

In addition to Pedrosa and Hopkins, fellow MotoGP big guns such as Casey Stoner, Valentino Rossi and Nicky Hayden will all be putting in the laps as the preparations for the 2008 championship step up a gear. Saturdays day of testing provides the opportunity to warm-up ahead of tomorrows 40-minute qualifying lap showdown, with a BMW Z4 M Roadster up for grabs.

Meanwhile, Saturday should also see the satellite Honda teams Honda LCR, San Carlo Honda Gresini and JiR Team Scot running with their updated 2008 RC212V prototypes for the first time.

In addition to the regular MotoGP competitors, test riders Vittoriano Guareschi, Niccolo Canepa (both Ducati) and Olivier Jacque (Kawasaki) will also be continuing their important development programmes at the southern Spanish track this weekend.
