Hayden reviews Jerez visit

Concluding the last of three days at the MotoGP Official test at the Jerez de la Frontera circuit at the head of the timesheets with a scorching best lap time of 1'38.848 in the final hour of Monday's run-out, Repsol Honda's Nicky Hayden was understandably pleased with the visit to southern Spain.

Speaking to motogp.com at the end of the only European pre-season test of 2008 the ‘Kentucky Kid' commented: "Things went pretty smoothly at this test; things are never perfect at a test, but it's definitely the best one we've had this year."

In putting down the fastest time of the weekend on his Michelin qualifiers, Hayden produced a lap which was exactly the same as his best from the November test visit and was of course achieved with the latest version of Honda's standard RC212V engine – with the Japanese factory having temporarily put aside their pneumatic valve motor.

Reviewing the Jerez test as a whole Hayden revealed: "I had high hopes coming here, because it's a track at which Michelin have always done well and also our engine is good around here with the 3rd-4th gear flowing stuff, it has good traction. We obviously want more for when we go to places with long straights, but overall the team did well and made some good decisions at this test. They didn't waste time with stuff that doesn't work, which sometimes happens when you take a new direction."
