Lorenzo still looking to increase race pace

After Fiat Yamaha's double 250cc World Champion and 2008 MotoGP rookie Jorge Lorenzo concluded day three of the MotoGP Official Test in second position on the timesheet the young Spanish rider was pleased with his qualifying tyre performance, but insistent that there is still plenty to work on with his race set-up.

Lorenzo's impressive time of 1'39.252 on his 60th and final lap of the day added a positive finish to what was an otherwise fairly tricky visit to Jerez, with the changeable weather conditions making it difficult for him to get comfortable in race trim on the potent Yamaha M1 2008 prototype.

"We finished with a very, very fast lap with qualifying tyres," stated Lorenzo. "With the race tyre we didn't go as fast, I was not as comfortable on the bike and was struggling a lot. We have to try to solve these problems by speaking with Michelin, to solve the lack of grip we have in the rear tyre."

"Now the first race is very close and we don't have a lot of time, but we are working very hard," he continued. "Overall though it's been an important three days and I am very happy that we're so good with the qualifying tyre. I am looking forward to something new in Qatar now; riding at night!"

Meanwhile Daniele Romagnoli, Lorenzo's Team Manager, commented: "Monday was difficult in places and especially at the start of the afternoon when the track conditions were still quite bad. It was also quite windy which didn't help. We've done some good work but we're still lacking some rear grip and have too much spin, so improving this is our key target at the moment."

"At the end with the qualifier things were very good and all the team had fun watching Jorge go so fast. Thanks to Jorge and the team for working so hard, now we will use the remaining time before the first race as best we can to be ready."
