De Rosa repeats opening day form

The second day of this week's testing visit to Jerez saw Onde 2000 KTM's Raffaele de Rosa and Pablo Nieto top the 125cc timesheet on a track which was drying in the afternoon sun.

An earlier free practice outing in the hills of southern Spain's beautiful Andalucia region had been disrupted by rain, with the riders only able to lap on wet or intermediate tyres, but De Rosa's confident afternoon performance on slicks saw him end the day as the fastest rider again – repeating his pace from Tuesday.

Indeed the Italian 20 year-old actually shaved 0.017s off his best effort from Tuesday with a time of 1'48.883s on the last of 13 laps. His more experienced Onde 2000 colleague Nieto, meanwhile, was three tenths of a second off that pace.

Young British rider Scott Redding of the Blusens Aprilia Junior team will have had his confidence boosted by finishing third quickest, while Pol Espargaro made it three different manufacturers in the top four on his Belson Derbi machinery.

Redding's Blusens Aprilia Junior team-mate Efren Vazquez rounded off the top five, while the likes of World Champion Gabor Talmacsi (Bancaja Apsar), Sergio Gadea (Bancaja Aspar) and Bradley Smith (Polaris World) were all on track but were hesitant to run at full throttle on a potential slippery track, with the season start just over two weeks away.

The single cylinder riders have one further testing date tomorrow on European soil, before the last test of pre-season and the opening Grand Prix of the year in Qatar at Losail International under the newly installed floodlight system.
