Three special edition trophies, celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Road Racing World Championship Grand Prix, will be created by the FIM and Dorna to be presented at the end of the forthcoming season.

Following the 2008 FIM Conference Meetings, which took place in Geneva from 21-24 February, the FIM Management Council have approved a proposal to create the three 60th anniversary trophies, in partnership with Dorna, each bearing the names of the first World Champions in their respective class in 1949 the year the Championship was formed.

At the conclusion of the 2008 season in Valencia, the new 125cc World Champion will therefore receive the Nello Pagani Trophy, the 250cc champion the Bruno Ruffo Trophy, and the new MotoGP champion the Leslie Graham Trophy.

Briton Graham was the inaugural premier class title winner, and went on to compete in the 350cc, 250cc and 125cc classes, winning eight Grands Prix in total. Ruffo, meanwhile, was the first quarter litre category champion and also tried his hand at 500cc and 125cc riding, with a return of four race wins and 10 podiums in total.

Pagani was of course the first man to take the 125cc crown and was also the runner-up to Graham in the premier class in 1949. The three ex-riders, Graham, Ruffo and Pagani, are pictured on the left from top to bottom respectively.
