Aspar line-up unveiled in Madrid presentation

Just days away from the start of the 2008 season, the Bancaja Aspar team undertook the official unveiling of their 2008 125cc and 250cc projects in a presentation held this Monday in Madrid.

Just days away from the start of the 2008 season, the Bancaja Aspar team undertook the official unveiling of their 2008 125cc and 250cc projects in a presentation held this Monday in Madrid.

The Zarzuela hippodrome welcomed both the Jorge Martinez ‘Aspar'-led lower cylinder category outfits and the Spanish media for a nocturnal event in the Spanish capital, in which the riders and bikes for the coming season appeared on stage. The Team Owner himself was the master of ceremonies, introducing in turn his six protégés for this year's campaign.

The 250cc line-up for 2008 is particularly rich in association with the Aspar team, with the Spanish duo of Alvaro Bautista and Hector Faubel resuming their previous partnership from the 125cc category. Both have experienced race wins under the Aprilia banner, with Bautista having done so already in the quarter litre category.

Set to follow the duo into 250cc in 2009 is Gabor Talmacsi, who for this season defends his title in the 125cc class. The reigning World Champion's continuation in the category means that the number one plate will adorn an Aspar bike for the first time, and the Hungarian is expected to be pushed in his title defence by team-mate Sergio Gadea. The duo were next up on stage, accompanied by debutante Pere Tutusaus.

The last word was, however, left to Aspar himself. The former 125cc rider paid tribute to the esteemed position held by the team in his former stomping ground, before looking ahead to what is sure to be another competitive season.

"The team have become the team to beat in 125cc, something that is very hard to achieve with such a new sponsorship project," noted the Spaniard.

"This year we will be trying not only to match the results of previous years, but to beat them as well."
