The plush surroundings of Madrids InterContinental Hotel played host to a sporting breakfast on Monday morning, attended by Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta, former premier class World Champion Alex Criville and numerous members of the Spanish media.

One of the many topics covered at the breakfast event was traction control, which has been discussed at recent Grand Prix Safety Commission meetings.

Mr Ezpeleta explained: The traction control regulations are not being changed as the Safety Commission, including riders such as Valentino Rossi, Casey Stoner, Marco Melandri, Loris Capirossi and John Hopkins, unanimously agree that it would compromise safety.

The ideas of limiting electronics or using a control ECU system are not viable at the moment. I think the best riders reach the top level whatever the systems in place on their bikes.

Meanwhile, Criville added: I used to be anti-traction control, but having ridden the new bikes I feel that although they might be easier to ride initially, in order to gain the final second, or half-second, set-up skills and riding skills are still absolutely key to separating the best riders.
