The lineup for the second season of the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup began their 2008 preparations on Monday, undertaking the first of two sessions geared towards getting the young riders in race shape for the coming season.

The Circuito de Jerez, scene of last week's MotoGP Official Test, welcomes the 24-rider strong lineup of 14 newcomers and 10 ‘old hands' for the developmental series, which runs alongside select MotoGP World Championship rounds.

The Jerez test is the first of three for the youngsters, who also have a pair of two-day sessions in Valencia and Estoril in which to get accustomed to the KTM RC 125 bikes used in the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup. A presentation of official series leathers took place on day one in southern Spain, followed by a technical schooling on the machines to make sure the protective clothing would not be frequently called into action by the 12-17 year-olds.

Thus far the weather has been kind to the riders, with none of the rainy conditions experienced by the regular World Championship riders over the course of last week's test.
