One of the hot title favourites in the 250cc category this season Alvaro Bautista is approaching his second year in the quarter litre class with high expectations, though he has had extra work to undertake during preseason - following surgery on his left wrist.

After a successful operation over the winter the Mapfre Aspar rider has been putting in the hard graft as he prepares for the forthcoming campaign as the highest finishing 2007 rider remaining in the 250 class.

He told motogp.com: I did two weeks of intense rehabilitation at a specialist centre where I was working for six to eight hours each day and that was a tough fortnight, without my friends or family around.

I think Ive improved things slightly but its a slow process and more than really causing problems or preventing me from getting on the bike its just a small but constant pain. I just hope that once the season is underway Ill be in better shape physically and things will keep improving. The 23 year-old Spaniard reflected on last weeks test in Jerez positively, having concluded the final day at the Andalucian circuit in third position on the timesheet, saying: Im happy because in addition to the lap time I did my overall pace was good and thats what is important.

The rhythm was very good, consistently under 144 and that is what is essential for racing. I was doing a race simulation and it went fairly well, the times were pretty good, so I can leave here happy with how things are going.

Meanwhile, on the evolution of his official RSA Aprilia machinery, he added: We have some new parts, mainly for the electronics and on the suspension, and were just working out what works well for us and what doesnt. Were working towards having a strong base for when the races start and getting all our material at 100% for the start of the season.
