De Puniet confident for start of season

Honda LCR rider Randy de Puniet ended Friday's Qatar night practice and the 2008 preseason testing programme in third position on the timesheet, boosting his confidence ahead of the first race of the season at Losail on 9th March.

Moving away from Kawasaki and Bridgestone at the end of last season, into a satellite Honda team and onto Michelin tyres for the forthcoming campaign, De Puniet has had plenty to learn over the winter and after shining at other test venues he was again one of the most impressive performers at the desert circuit during the floodlit workout.

Speaking to motogp.com about his Friday findings De Puniet revealed: "My feeling was good, it was even better than yesterday (Thursday) and yesterday was very good. We worked specifically on rear and front tyres, and I did some good lap times, improving on my best time on race tyres from yesterday by half a second."

"Michelin have done a very good job since the end of the year and I'm very happy because in Jerez I found a good tyre for my riding style. I'm happy to work with them and I hope to have a good first race. I think we are ready, I'm quite confident and I feel comfortable with the bike."
