Always ready for a new challenge, Kawasakis John Hopkins was unfazed by the new experience of riding under the bright lights of Losail. The Anglo-American, in much better shape than at the previous MotoGP Official Test in Jerez, took the adaptation process in his stride and had good words to say about the unique scenario for the premier class riders.

Its cool! Of course, things are different, but I had a lot of fun riding, said Hopkins after the opening session, in which he finished seventh on the timesheets with a fastest lap of 156.614.

Youve got to deal with a few shadows, like when youre turning into a corner you think somebody is right behind you, but you get used to it. Actually it (riding at night) makes things a little bit easier, because you just dont see anything except for the race track.

As he did in last years race in Qatar, Hopkins was riding not fully recovered from injury. Kawasakis new addition has been walking wounded, both figuratively and literally, as a result of a torn abductor, since last months test in Phillip Island, although as always there is little room in the schedule to take it easy.

Its still sore, but getting better, noted last years fourth place finisher in the MotoGP standings. Weve been able to do a full nights testing, 5-6 hours of riding, and weve got to be out there doing the times.
