Qatar conditions beneficial for De Puniet

Continuing his positive habit of early testing success, Randy de Puniet was once again amongst the frontrunners in Qatar at the final preseason event of the year.

Trailing only respective Ducati and Yamaha factory riders Casey Stoner and Jorge Lorenzo, the Frenchman was the third fastest participant in the inaugural night event at the Losail International Circuit. Already running under previous race simulation times from 2007 (the LCR Honda rider is yet to finish a MotoGP race in Qatar after crashes for the past two years) De Puniet is expecting the change in conditions to help him go even faster next weekend.

"I'm already faster than last year, even after having only done 35-40 laps. I think the conditions will be a bit better for us as regards the temperature, and we'll have less movement in the tyres. This is why the lap times are much better," explains the 27 year-old.

"Riding at night was a little strange. When you look outside the track, it's completely dark. The wind dropped down towards the end, so the conditions and the lap times were both good."
