Pedrosa left with work to do after frustrating desert run

Before next Sunday's season-opening Commercialbank Grand Prix of Qatar race, at Losail International circuit, Dani Pedrosa will have his work cut out once free practice commences, as of 7pm local time on Friday.

The 2008 preseason came to an end with last year's World Championship runner-up Down in 13th position on the Qatar test timesheet, having languished in low positions with both race tyres and qualification tyres over the course of the two evening sessions in the Arabian desert.

"Well the test wasn't so good as we had many problems on the bike on both days and we couldn't improve the lap times. So it was not so easy," reflected Pedrosa ruefully.

"We tried many things and nothing really works well," he continued. "We were expecting to improve today (Friday) but in the end we weren't able to, so it was just like a waste of time and the situation now is not too clear. We have to come back for the Grand Prix next weekend and try to improve our package for the race."

The one positive note was Pedrosa's continued improvement in terms of his recovery from the broken bone in his right hand, sustained on the first day of post-Christmas preseason testing at Malaysia. The Catalan rider commented: "My right hand is little bit better, I had some time to rest it, so here I've been able to ride more laps than I managed at Jerez."
