World Champion Casey Stoner wrapped up his Qatar test work early, clocking just 31 laps and finishing the evening fifth on the timesheet, before giving motogp.com a typically honest assessment of the practice outing at the desert circuit.

The Ducati Marlboro rider, who of course stunned to rest of the MotoGP grid by taking victory on his debut with the Italian team in Qatar last year at the start of his epic charge to the 2007 title, again demonstrated good pace on race tyres on Friday at Losail.

Although he suffered a slight crash on the entry to turn two at around 10.30pm local time the Australian was satisfied with his work under the innovative floodlight system at the desert venue, having topped the timesheets on Thursday.

"The second day was a little bit worse than the first and I think everybody struggled with the colder conditions tonight (Friday), although some people improved," said the MotoGP title holder. "We're still quite happy with the setting that we have, as everything is working quite well."

"We did 30 laps with a rear race tyre which is well beyond the amount of laps that we will do in the race, so we're very happy with this at the moment."

"We've got a couple of tyres that are working quite well and we're still not entirely sure which way we are going to go there," added Stoner. "We tried a few different things, we tried some qualifying tyres and they really didn't work so well. I think we need a little bit of luck when the race comes."
