Mirroring the success of 250cc counterpart Mattia Pasini, Polaris Worlds British 125cc talent Bradley Smith concluded his second night of testing in style with a spirited showing in Qatar.

The Aprilia riders time of 205.306 was a confidence-enhancing one for the seventeen year-old, with a scan down the timesheets showing him to be over a second quicker than reigning World Champion Gabor Talmacsi. Smith was also six tenths of a second faster than the previous best under the floodlights of Qatar, set on Saturday night by expected title rival Sergio Gadea.

On any other night, British plaudits would have been firmly focused on rookie Scott Redding, the second of three riders born and raised in England to occupy a top six spot. Reddings amazing adaptation has gone largely unnoticed as he has acclimatised himself to the World Championships peculiarities in preseason, but a second place in the second nights classification gives the indication that it might not only be MotoGP rider James Toseland who has the chance of an impressive debut on the world stage next week.

The fastest man in the early evening combined session, Mike di Meglio was third on the timesheets onboard his Derbi machine, unable to join Smith and Redding in breaking the 206 barrier. Grizzly Gas Kiefer Racings full-time 125cc returnee Stefan Bradl was fourth, ahead of aforementioned Bancaja Aspar World Champion Talmacsi. Danny Webb was the third of the British trio to appear in the top six.

Nico Terol, Sandro Cortese, Sergio Gadea and Pablo Nieto completed the top ten, with the latters Onde 2000 KTM team-mate Raffaele de Rosa crashing in the final stages of the night tests second night. Also hitting the deck were Robin Lasser and Belson Derbis Pol Espargaro in the 125cc-only session.Qatar Official Test: 125cc
