Adding his name to the list of riders at less than 100% fitness, Alice Teams French newcomer Sylvain Guintoli is back in England - his country of residence to have an examination on an arm injury after a late preseason scare in Qatar.

Guintoli suffered damage to his right arm on a fast lap, which he was undertaking in order to prepare for this Saturdays opening qualifying session of the year. Whilst the injury is not expected to affect the 2007 Rookie of the Years presence at Losail for the first race of the year, it nonetheless comes as a blow ahead of the 25 year-olds Alice Team debut.

We managed to improve race pace at Qatar, but I found some difficulties with qualifying setting, explained Guintoli as he elaborated upon the injury. While I was pushing to the maximum, I slipped and hurt my right arm. I thought it would be bad, but after the first medical examination it doesnt seem such a serious injury. To be sure I am flying back to England straight away, where I will undergo further medical exams to be certain that everything is ok.

Fabiano Sterlacchini, Alice Teams Technical Director, is confident of being able to count on Guintoli at the Commercialbank Grand Prix of Qatar, and has also received a boost with the improved fitness of the Frenchmans team-mate Toni Elias.

Toni is physically and mentally ready; we only need to help him to find the right feeling with the bike, but we are confident of giving him a competitive bike, starting from Sunday, said Sterlacchini, whilst the rider himself admits that, in terms of the Desmosedici GP8 Sat, there is still room for improvement.

Lets say we were expecting something more, but this will be useful to look for alternative choices for next weekend, when lap times will really count, stated a philosophical Elias. We have concluded our winter tests and we are a bit behind, but we have still time to improve the setting of the bike and adapt it to my riding style.
