Chris Vermeulen and Loris Capirossi experienced mixed fortunes in the final preseason test of 2008 at Losail, but both Rizla Suzuki riders are looking forward to the historic night-time Commercialbank Grand Prix of Qatar this weekend with great anticipation.

Vermeulen's fastest effort of 1'56.119 from 73 laps on Friday under the floodlights put him eighth on the timesheets as he continually chipped away at his best time and optimised the set-up of his Suzuki GSV-R, ahead of his third full season in the World Championship.

Reflecting on his Qatar findings Vermeulen commented positively: "I think we have taken the most steps in a test so far this year with the 2008 GSV-R, so in that respect I am really happy."

"We took our lap time forward by over a second consistently," continued the Australian, "so that puts us in a better position for the race next week. I would like to thank the crew for all their hard work during what have been quite awkward hours. I now just can't wait for the race."

Meanwhile, Capirossi ended up 11th overall - his best time a 1'56.450 lap - with some crucial engine and chassis tests slightly hampered by a heavy crash early in the Friday session, which saw him walk away unhurt but meant he had to switch to his spare GSV-R in order to continue his work.

"I think I lost a bit too much time because I tested too many things," said the Italian veteran. "I tried three different engines and maybe was a bit confused with all the different options, but it was really important to do it."

"The good thing is that we now really understand where we need to be, but we will still have to work hard to get there. I also lost time because I had a big crash, but luckily I wasn't hurt and could carry on. Really this has been quite a good test because we have learnt many things."
