After a crash on the final day of preseason testing at Losail last Friday, Sylvain Guintoli has been given permission by doctors to make his Alice Team debut in this weekend's season-opening Commercialbank Grand Prix of Qatar.

Following the accident at the desert circuit Guintoli went back to England, where he lives with his family, to undergo specialist medical assessment on a bruised right arm. Medical advisers gave him the nod to ride this weekend, though he is not expected to be firing on all cylinders.

"I don't know just yet if I will be at my best," said the French rider, "but I don't want to begin the season by missing the first Grand Prix. Also, we are racing at night and I don't think this is an occasion to miss out on."

"I still think it is strange that all of this is possible, all the organizers of the event have done a fantastic job. I can guarantee that during the test, after a few laps all seemed normal, like if we were riding during the day."
