The Losail International Circuit paddock was filling steadily on Thursday morning, with teams, riders and officials readying themselves for the first night race in the history of the World Championship.

The weather at the desert track on the eve of the 2008 season is sunny and breezy, with a hazy sky, though of course the daytime conditions give only a slight indication of what the riders can expect during the night-time sessions over the Commercialbank Grand Prix of Qatar weekend the recent test visit showing that cool temperatures will be the main factor to contend with.

Before the action commences under the floodlights on Friday the opening MotoGP free practice outing at 7pm local time tomorrow preceded by the first 125cc practice at 6pm there are a few activities to keep the teams busy on Thursday.

From 10am scrutineering sessions for each World Championship class will be overseen by MotoGP Technical Director Mike Webb, as the usual annual checks and measurements on bike weights and general standards take place in the Technical Control Area next to pit lane.

Group photos of the entire fields in each category will take place in the early afternoon on the starting grid a wide lens required for the single cylinder class with 34 riders gathered together.

The first pre-event press conference of the year kicks off at 4pm with World Champion Casey Stoner (Ducati Marlboro) joined by Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda), Valentino Rossi (Fiat Yamaha), John Hopkins (Kawasaki) and Loris Capirossi (Rizla Suzuki), as some of the biggest names in the sport look forward to the start of a new season.

This evening at Dohas Sharq Village & Spa, meanwhile, all MotoGP riders will be in attendance for a gala celebration marking the commencement of the 2008 championship.

At the event there will be speeches by Claude Danis (FIM CCR President), Mr. Nasser bin Khalifa Al-Attiyah (QMMF President) and Mr. Carmelo Ezpeleta (CEO of Dorna), while typical local traditions for the riders to watch and participate in will also take place.
