Capirossi using 2007/2008 Suzuki hybrid in Qatar

Languishing low down the timesheets in the first practice session of 2008, the Rizla Suzuki duo of Chris Vermeulen and Loris Capirossi managed to salvage something from the day with a breakthrough in their second MotoGP on-track outing.

Languishing low down the timesheets in the first practice session of 2008, the Rizla Suzuki duo of Chris Vermeulen and Loris Capirossi managed to salvage something from the day with a breakthrough in their second MotoGP on-track outing. The former finished ninth in the standings and was able to solve a persistent vibration problem alongside his crew, whilst the team's experienced new blood also took steady steps forward.

The two are undertaking the challenge presented by the Losail International Circuit on two different versions of the Suzuki GSV-R, as Team Manager Paul Denning explained at the conclusion of proceedings.

"Chris ran during 1st session 2008 complete GSV-R machine, and a 2008 GSV-R with the 2007 aerodynamics package on it, which is what Loris favoured during the test. However, he's spent so much time on the 2008 bike that he really didn't feel any benefit from that, so he's on the complete 2008 machine," said Denning when quizzed about the models used by both his riders.

"Loris will be on an 07/08 hybrid for the rest of the weekend. It's all the new engine, chassis and electronics but with the 2007 aerodynamics package. He just feels that -whether it's to do with his riding style or whatever- for corner entry and balancing the bike it suits him better. If that's what the rider wants to use then we'll listen to them, we're not going to be stubborn and that's what Loris will be using."
