On the second evening of the Commercialbank Grand Prix of Qatar LCR Hondas exciting French rider Randy de Puniet gave motogp.com his opinion on what is required of the premier class participants as they compete in the unique conditions of the desert circuit, following nightfall.

After some good showings in preseason, De Puniet was outside the top five in the free practice sessions on Friday and Saturday -suffered a spectacular crash in the ultimate of the three- but will hope to up the pace as the stakes rise during qualifying and Sundays race.

You need to adapt, said the Frenchman from the Losail paddock, but last week we had two days of testing here and it took a lot of work but after a few laps it was OK, riding at night isn´t much of a problem.

The only problem is that at the beginning, he added, as the track is very slippery, but it only improves when you get some more laps. I think the conditions are better than last week because the ground temperature is hotter and the conditions should be good for the race.

In terms of set-up, it´s exactly the same as at other Grand Prix. When it comes to tyre choice, we obviously have to get some softer tyres but for example we´re using this weekend the same tyres as in Jerez because the track temperature was almost the same as during the test in Spain. So there´s no major difference in the set-up of the machine.
