Tech 3 Yamaha trio delighted with outstanding front row

Yamahas dream night was one of particular pride for the Tech 3 satellite team, with their best ever qualifying performance and both James Toseland and Colin Edwards on the front row for their first race for Herve Poncharals outfit.

For Toseland, making his MotoGP debut in 2008, second place marks an outstanding achievement for a maiden qualifying session, only eclipsed by that of factory rider and poleman Jorge Lorenzo. The Briton led the way for most of the session eventually pipped in the final minutes by the Fiat Yamaha debutant- and was overwhelmed by such a positive outcome little over four months since he first swung his leg over the M1.

I was watching the big scoreboard with a minute to go; I knew there was a 153 lap possible in there, but I made a small mistake and did a 54. Congratulations to Lorenzo for finding that lap and to Colin as well for getting back on the front row, said an elated Toseland just moments after his stunning run, before turning his attentions to Sundays all-important race.

If its possible to ride for the podium then Ill definitely be trying for it. Itll be difficult, but if youd have told me that Id be on the front row for my first MotoGP race then I wouldnt have believed you, so well see!

Rounding off the front row in Qatar for the second consecutive year, Colin Edwards was also in good spirits, typically self-deprecating when asked for his thoughts on the session.

I can hear it all throughout the press now, people will be saying Oh, Yamaha is the best, three riders on the front row etc. Lets not get too carried away. Yamaha and Michelin have worked their butts off and Id like to thank Tech 3, Herve and everybody, said the Texas Tornado.

Im going to have to ride my ass off tomorrow. Weve been the last two on top speed for the past few days, but well put the knife between our teeth and go for it. For Herve its been a tough two years, hes not always had the right package.

The last word, however, belonged to Poncharal himself. Hints of what might be possible were present over the course of the preseason, but the Frenchman has been around the MotoGP paddock long enough to know that what happens in the winter doesnt always translate to the season proper.

Its an incredible feeling! said the Tech 3 Yamaha boss. We are happy, but already thinking about tomorrows race. When you do a good winter test like us you think great, but you dont know about what will happen when it really counts. Im really happy and well look forward to tomorrow.
