Capirossi keeps the faith despite difficult Suzuki debut

Whilst not quite as disastrous as his start to the 2007 season, Loris Capirossis opening race of the year in Qatar was not the debut for Rizla Suzuki that he would have wanted.

Whilst not quite as disastrous as his start to the 2007 season, Loris Capirossis opening race of the year in Qatar was not the debut for Rizla Suzuki that he would have wanted.

The Italian veteran finished eighth in the first ever night race at the Losail International Circuit, with both he and team-mate Chris Vermeulen experiencing difficulties throughout the weekend. Last year he crashed out of the Qatar visit whilst riding for Ducati, but the subtle improvement in initial race results was still someway off his dream start to 2006, when he won the Spanish curtain-raiser in Jerez.

It was a difficult race, admitted the oldest rider on the MotoGP grid. We had a lot of problems, particularly with the qualifying tyres, during the weekend. I started from thirteenth and just had to do my best.

Capirossi was optimistic about his new teams prospects for the year, despite the early teething problems, and drew positives from some of the work undertaken in Qatar.

It wasnt the best result for us, but we did find some good points, said the former 250cc World Champion. We want to be fighting for the top positions and I have faith in the project; Weve tried a lot of things, but havent found the right setup at the moment. The season is just beginning.

Capirossi has the chance to make history this year, as a race victory would make him the first rider to win a Grand Prix with four different factories (Honda, Yamaha, Ducati and Suzuki).
