One of the home wild cards set to spark the most interest in the Gran Premio bwin.com de España is 16 year old Axel Pons, son of twice 250cc World Champion and Spanish legend Sito Pons.

The youngster will make his World Championship debut in the 125cc class under the Jack&Jones WRB banner, as part of a team including Simone Corsi and Nico Terol and run with the support of the senior Pons. The teenager was born just a month before his father´s final Grand Prix appearance at the Circuito de Jerez, the 500cc race which took place on May 12th, 1991.

Upon receiving confirmation of his progeny´s maiden appearance on the world stage, Pons was understandably proud.

`It is hugely satisfying to hear of the news; Axel was anxiously awaiting this opportunity and it has given enormous pleasure to the family. On a personal level it is very exciting to have the Pons name once again echoing through the World Championship,´ he commented.

Jack&Jones WRB are hoping to confirm further wild card spots for Axel Pons in select European rounds in 2008.
