Angel Nieto: `Stoner won´t dominate in 2008´

12+1 times World Champion and a Spanish motorcycle legend, Angel Nieto is well qualified to comment on the early 2008 success of countrymen Jorge Lorenzo and Dani Pedrosa in MotoGP.

Nieto now works as a commentator for Spanish television station TVE, and was present in Qatar for the battle between Lorenzo, Pedrosa and reigning World Champion Casey Stoner. Whilst the latter was victorious on that occasion, Nieto does not believe that the Australian will run away with the title this year.

`The championship is going to be very exciting this year,´ notes the paddock veteran. `In MotoGP I don´t think that Stoner will be so dominant, whilst the lower cylinder categories have been left wide open. People are going to enjoy the action, as the important thing is always to have the spectacle.´

Nieto has long championed Fiat Yamaha rider Lorenzo throughout his meteoric rise through the ranks of the various cylinder categories, but even he was surprised by the early form of the Majorcan.

`Lorenzo is a rider that has left everyone´s jaws on the floor. Hes the best example of the newcomers coming up from 250cc with an abundance of talent,´ praises Nieto. `I dont think that he will be fighting for the title just yet, but he´s made clear what he is capable of doing. He is a candidate for more podiums.´

`Pedrosa also has a great talent,´ he adds. `He´s a technical rider, and I love the way he works and the way he takes things. When he has a bike that he likes, he´s a candidate for victory.´
