Elias has provided some of the largest crowds of recent MotoGP seasons with memorable performances over the past two seasons. In 2006 he collided with then-reigning World Champion Valentino Rossi on the opening corner, eliminating the Italian from the proceedings before finishing fourth, a position that he repeated last year after nearly closing down podium finisher Colin Edwards.

`Jerez is my home race and my favourite circuit, so I´m very happy to come here,´ said Elias ahead of Friday´s opening practice sessions. `We are not in the best shape, but definitely highly motivated, something to which the crowd will add. There´s no rain forecast, so lets hope that that is the case!´

The season curtain-raiser in Qatar saw the Alice Team newcomer struggle with the Desmosedici GP8 Sat machine at his disposal, although he does not believe that this will carry over to round two of 2008.

`It´s not an easy bike to ride, but it has great power. Riding in the daytime should be better for the bike and the tyres, and I really do think that it´s just a matter of time before we see some good results,´ concluded Elias.
