The massive expectation ahead of the first European round of the MotoGP season was building rapidly on Thursday at the magical Jerez de la Frontera circuit in southern Spain, where nearly a quarter of a million fans are expected over the duration of the Gran Premio bwin.com de España weekend.

Having been introduced to the World Championship in 1987 Jerez has become a permanent fixture on the calendar and is one of the most popular venues in MotoGP with riders and fans alike the crowds creating a unique atmosphere with their passion and sheer numbers in the beautiful Andalusia countryside.

Pleasant spring temperatures, a light breeze and brief periods of sunshine welcomed the MotoGP fraternity to the Jerez track, the paddock filling rapidly as the teams mounted their hospitality and pit-box fittings and scores of dignitaries, officials, riders and staff arrived to ready themselves for the weekend.

Thursdays customary pre-GP press conference will see Casey Stoner, Jorge Lorenzo, Dani Pedrosa, Andrea Dovizioso and Valentino Rossi speak to the media ahead of round two at 4pm.

Before that, a pre-event visit to a typical Andalusian house in Jerez´s Plaza del Arroyo will see Shinya Nakano, Toni Elias, Marco Simoncelli, Sergio Gadea and Bradley Smith sample local delights such as flamenco dancing and tapas.
