On the eve of his first European premier class Grand Prix, Fiat Yamaha rider Jorge Lorenzo has revealed that his arrival in MotoGP with the Japanese factory was all-but-confirmed even before his first 250cc World Championship victory.

`The decision was taken a long time ago -I think in September or October- 2006. For us it was the best option, to become part of Yamaha history, the Yamaha Official Team. To be part of their history and to become the future of the brand,´ confirmed the Spaniard after his memorable MotoGP debut in Qatar.

There had been much speculation as to Lorenzo´s final destination throughout 2007, with most sources linking him strongly to Yamaha and a partnership with Valentino Rossi, one of his racing heroes. The move was finally made official in the latter stages of last season, with then-factory rider Colin Edwards moving to the Tech 3 Yamaha satellite team.

Whilst the twice 250cc titlist has regularly received official support for his campaigns, even for the charismatic 20 year-old last year´s official Yamaha presentation opened eyes and came as a shock to the system.

`We always had the good fortune previously to be in a big factory team, but the Yamaha Factory team presentation changed my perception of who I am and where I can get to,´ said Lorenzo in a humble tone. However, the brash confidence returned when questioned about Jerez, a favoured track for the Spanish star and the scene of this weekend´s Gran Premio bwin.com.España.

`At Jerez, I always go fast there. I´ve had two pole positions and two victories in the last few years, and in MotoGP I also ride fast there with the Yamaha,´ he noted.

`I did a very fast simulation there in November. Now we are concentrating on this race, and also in Jerez we want to show the spectators and the people watching the race outside the circuit that we are ready to put on a good show.´
