Smith looking to lay problems to rest at Spanish sojourn

Aside from his rivals in the 125cc category, few would begrudge Polaris World´s Bradley Smith a debut victory in Jerez after his cruel misfortune three weeks ago in Qatar.

Aside from his rivals in the 125cc category, few would begrudge Polaris World´s Bradley Smith a debut victory in Jerez after his cruel misfortune three weeks ago in Qatar. The Briton was untouchable at the top of the timesheets at both the test and race weekend in Losail, but a broken steering dampener put an end to his chances of victory just four laps into the Grand Prix itself.

`I can only take the positives from Qatar and put them into this race,´ philosophised Smith upon arriving in Jerez. `Things are looking ok and we will continue to work exactly as we did in Qatar. Hopefully we can be on top when it really matters this time.´

The 17 year-old also has less than fond memories of last year´s race in Southern Spain. Mattia Pasini –ironically enough riding the same bike with which Smith will undertake the 2008 season- took him out of the race after the Italian had played a frantic game of catch-up on the opening laps (Pasini himself had experienced mechanical problems on the sighting lap, relegating him from pole position to the back of the field).

`The problems in Qatar were a season´s worth in one race, and we didn´t have any problems in the tests. We also went fastest in Jerez earlier this year, so hopefully the difficulties are behind us now,´ concluded the graduate of the MotoGP Academy, who has spent his downtime training in Italy to avoid the inclement British weather of his homeland.
