Paul Denning, Team Manager for Rizla Suzuki, gave motogp.com an update on his team's current status ahead of the Gran Premio bwin.com de España, following a post-Qatar trip to Japan for an important meeting at Suzuki HQ.

The season started with winter 2008 recruit Loris Capirossi finishing in eighth position at Losail, while Chris Vermeulen was outside the points in 17th, but Denning is focussing on the wider picture in terms of results and performances, while of course aiming for improvements as of this weekend in southern Spain.

On his Japan visit he explained, `It's important to keep the communication between the race team and the factory as close as it can possibly be, so we had a catch up meeting on where we are at technically and organisationally and look at things longer term.´

`Defining the strategy for 2009 and beyond, lots of ides can be kicked around, but they don't necessarily have to be acted upon at this early stage.´

Stating how the team would be approaching round two of the season, he added: `The target for this weekend is going to be to keep things simple. I think we learned a lot over the Qatar test and race weekend, enough to get the bike running solidly inside the top ten but not to run with the front group.´

`Really I feel that for both of our riders that was the start point for them. They will both be on the same specification machine this weekend and our target from first thing on Friday will be not to focus on fundamental issues with the motorcycle, but on their own their own riding techniques and fine tuning.´
