Nico Terol was the early riser of the World Championship on Friday morning, for the first 125cc practice session at the Circuito de Jerez. The home rider competing for Jack&Jones WRB in this season´s campaign, recorded a 149.002 lap of the Spanish track over half a second quicker than nearest rival and reigning World Champion Gabor Talmacsi.

The 45-minute long run was the first of its kind in the 2008 season, as in Qatar at round two all sessions in all three classes took place at night. Also enjoying the daylight hours after a difficult time under the floodlights was Terol´s team-mate, Simone Corsi, a further two tenths of a second down on the morning´s fastest time in third.

Ajo Motorsport´s Mike di Meglio, Onde 2000 KTM competitor Raffaele de Rosa and Blusens Aprilia local boy Efren Vazquez were the only other riders to go round within a second of Terol´s early marker, with Danny Webb, Dominique Aegerter, Tomoyoshi Koyama and Michael Ranseder completing the top ten.

World Championship leader and Qatar victor Sergio Gadea had a slow start onboard his Aspar Aprilia machine, coming in 21st, whilst Losail poleman and expected challenger for victory in Jerez Bradley Smith was in turn two places down.

There was a nasty crash less then ten minutes into the session from home wild card Daniel Saez, who was taken to hospital for examination after falling at turn ten.
