After witnessing two Spanish riders finish qualifying at the top of the premier class grid for only the second time in the history of the World Championship, at the Gran Premio bwin.com de España on Saturday, 1999 World Champion Alex Criville told motogp.com just what it means to see such success - for him as a Spaniard.

With Criville's compatriots Jorge Lorenzo and Dani Pedrosa in the one and two slots respectively at Jerez, this is the first time two Spanish riders have secured pole and second place for a premier class race in the Iberian country. The only previous occurrence was outside Spain in neighbouring France at Le Mans in 2004, when Sete Gibernau was on pole and Carlos Checa qualified in second place.

Excited about the prospect of a potential battle between the pair in Sunday's race, Criville enthused, `I think the race could be between Lorenzo and Pedrosa. They are both very young and they are so strong. They have good bikes, from the best teams, so for Spain this is the best. To have two riders at the front in MotoGP.´

On Lorenzo's form in particular Criville added, `It's unbelievable! He is trying hard and he is really pushing it at this track and I think everybody is surprised. He did the record time and also three weeks ago in Qatar he got the pole position and finished second. Here he is riding at home, he feel strong and I think he has the possibility to try to win this race.´
