Early season progress pleases Toseland

Despite being slightly off colour due to a chest infection at the Gran Premio bwin.com de España, which has seen him lower down the free practice timesheets than he would have hoped for, James Toseland is still upbeat about the start he has made in MotoGP and is looking to stay with the front runners in Sunday's race.

The 27 year-old is feeling unwell in Jerez but is battling hard to maintain the momentum of his early success with the Tech3 Yamaha team, saying, `We had two good tests here over the winter. Other than coming down with bronchitis on Thursday and feeling a bit rough hopefully I can shake that off before Sunday and my aim is to qualify on the front two rows. Then I want to have a similar result to Qatar and get close to the podium.´

Having come sixth in round one at Losail, the Englishman looked back on his World Championship debut, commenting, `It was a great start. To qualify on the front row in second and nearly on pole was a bit surreal. I got an average start, not a great start, and I'd slipped back to fifth or sixth before I got on the brakes and was brave into turn one where I passed them all back and ended up in second again.´

`As the race progressed a few people passed me down the straight which was a bit frustrating but the bike was handling well and to push Valentino (Rossi) round during the second half of the race was incredible. It has been a long time since I was pleased with a sixth place finish but it was a great start for us.´

The multi-talented Yorkshire rider also found time for one of his virtuoso piano performances for motogp.com on Friday evening, playing two beautiful tunes in the company of a glamorous female violinist.
