The fantastic performance of Fiat Yamahas Jorge Lorenzo in securing pole for his home Grand Prix earned him praise from all quarters, with Yamaha Motor Racing Managing Director Lin Jarvis amongst those most impressed with the Spaniards achievement.

The double 250cc World Champion and youngest rider in the premier class will be supported by a massive crowd of passionate home fans when he gets away from pole on Sunday, after recording the fastest ever lap of Jerez of 138.189 on Saturday having also qualified at the top of the grid on his MotoGP debut in Qatar.

Sundays Gran Premio bwin.com de España promises to be an enthralling affair with Lorenzo just ahead of compatriot Dani Pedrosa on the grid meaning an intriguing battle between the pair is a distinct possibility.

Of Lorenzos incredible pace Jarvis commented, `Its pretty to stunning to be here in only your second Grand Prix having already got pole position on your first run. To come here in front of a home crowd and with a big expectation is amazing.´

`Hes on form, he doesnt seem to suffer from stress, hes consistently fast and the last lap was just stunning, so its superb.´

Having seen Tech 3 Yamaha rider Colin Edwards also qualifying on the front row, and some good test results from both the satellite and factory Yamaha teams over the winter Jarvis is satisfied with the overall progress they are making though he unsurprisingly expects fifth place qualifier Valentino Rossi to improve results soon.

`I think Yamaha of all the manufacturers have shown the best progress (since 2007) so were pretty happy,´ Jarvis stated. `We have some issues on Valentinos side that we need a bit more time with. We had a small problem with qualifying today and we expect to see Valentino on the front row and on the podium and he needs a bit more time with the tyres, then hell get there.´
