Saturdays action at the Gran Premio bwin.com de España will see the World Championship riders fight for the crucial advantage of a good grid position, as the afternoon qualifying outings dominate the days agenda at the Jerez de la Frontera circuit.

The morning commenced with a mostly clear blue sky dotted with a few clouds in southern Spain, with virtually no breeze and pleasant early spring temperatures as the MotoGP paddock came to life at the first European round of 2008.

Following the mornings customary final free practice sessions the afternoon will see the serious business of qualifying for Sundays races in all three classes, with the hour-long premier class run taking place at 1.55pm local time, sandwiched in between the earlier 125cc and later 250cc sessions.

In MotoGP Fiat Yamahas Jorge Lorenzo will aim to continue will remarkable adaptation to 800cc competition as he battles to repeat his Friday timesheet topping pace and his pole position at round one in Qatar.

Judging by past form and yesterdays free practice times Lorenzos team-mate Valentino Rossi, Yamaha satellite rider Colin Edwards, Repsol Honda pair Dani Pedrosa and Nicky Hayden, along with World Champion Casey Stoner of Ducati Marlboro are also more than likely to be amongst the front runners for the number one grid slot.

Meanwhile, in the 250cc category Red Bull KTMs Mika Kallio will be defending his provisional pole position, with Spanish Jack & Jones WRB rider Nico Terol hoping to do the same in the 125cc class in front of the home fans.

This afternoon will also see the first Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup race of the year at 4.20pm, followed by a second race tomorrow afternoon for the KTM equipped youngsters with another Spaniard Luis Salom the top qualifier.
