Following emergency surgery on Friday Randy Krummenacher was recovering at the Sanlucar de Barrameda hospital near Cadiz on Saturday, with his KTM employers awaiting an update on when he can be transferred back to his homeland.

The 125cc teenager, who was due to compete in this weekend's Gran Premio bwin.com de España for the Red Bull KTM team, had his spleen removed by surgeons yesterday after reporting acute pain to the Clinica Mobile unit in the Jerez paddock in the early hours of Friday morning - caused by a mountain bike crash several days earlier.

KTM spokesperson Dorothea Etschmann told motogp.com, `It was really a serious situation and the doctors had to act immediately. They took out his spleen and the operation went well. They were very happy about it. Now step by step he is improving and feeling slightly better. One of our mechanics is with him waiting to find out when the doctors can allow him to be taken home to Switzerland.´

At this early stage the team are unsure about whether Krummancher will be replaced for the next round in Estoril, though it seems likely that the 18 year-old from Zurich will miss out on the trip to Portugal.

`At the moment we are still waiting for the doctors to give more information and then the next step if Randy is not riding will be to think about what is necessary to replace him and to see for the next couple of races.´
