Smith´s confidence boosted after second pole position

After going `pole to pole´ in the 125cc class, Bradley Smith now gets a second bite at the cherry in his quest for a maiden World Championship victory.

After going `pole to pole´ in the 125cc class, Bradley Smith now gets a second bite at the cherry in his quest for a maiden World Championship victory.

The Briton was the fastest rider in both the morning practice session and the all-important qualifying run, with his at times temperamental Polaris World Aprilia bike giving him no problems on a sunny Saturday afternoon. Smith presented a convincing case for first win in the class, half a second faster than any other 125cc rider in Jerez.

`Obviously it´s a great feeling for me to be on pole position, after a difficult weekend,´noted the seventeen year-old. `Friday and Saturday morning we were able to get a good bike for qualifying. The race is 24 laps, not just 1, but this is definitely a confidence booster and I hope that we can have a good race tomorrow.´

One of Smith´s favourite tracks, the Circuito de Jerez is highly familiar to the Oxfordshire rider through his time in the Spanish Championship. Though much has changed since his rise through the ranks of the Red Bull MotoGP Academy, the track at which he cut his teeth has always remained a standout.

`This track is like my home; I´ve ridden so many laps here!´ he joked. `I´m lucky to have two race tracks in a row that I like a lot, and it should be a fantastic race tomorrow with the incredible crowd and atmosphere.´
