With the front row of Sundays MotoGP grid at the Gran Premio bwin.com de España dominated by competitors on Michelin tyres, including Tech 3 Yamahas Colin Edwards the American riders team boss Herve Poncharal was full of praise for the French brand after Saturdays qualifying session.

Poncharal took his Tech 3 outfit over from Dunlop to Michelin during the off-season and with Edwards and new recruit James Toseland enjoying some good early season form and other riders benefitting from Michelins renewed MotoGP efforts the team manager is understandably in a positive frame of mind.

`Im very happy at the moment with what we got from Michelin,´ said Poncharal, after getting great recent feedback from Edwards who struggled for consistency at times in 2007 with Michelin tyres at Fiat Yamaha.

`We werent with them last year but the main guy who can comment on this is Colin and hes telling us its a completely different world. Both front and rear, but especially with the front. To have confidence with it on a motorcycle is a key point.´

`Now Colin is telling me, and James too, that they have an incredible feeling and great confidence in the front, which means they can push harder. We saw quite a few crashes from our opposition (Bridgestone riders) on Saturday, so this is telling me a lot of things.´

Adding his view on why it is so crucial to qualify well at Jerez and recalling the famous Valentino Rossi crash on turn one in 2006 when he was clipped by Toni Elias, Poncharal also stated, `Its always important to be in a good grid position, on the first two rows, for any race, but here maybe more than at other racetracks.´

We all remember when Valentino Rossi was caught from behind a couple of years ago, its a tricky place the first braking point here. To be in front and get a good start is always an insurance policy that the first two laps will be ok.´
