Paul Denning, Team Manager for Rizla Suzuki, was highly impressed by Loris Capirossi's race performance at Sunday's Gran Premio bwin.com de España, with the Italian coming home in fifth place despite starting tenth on the grid.

The most experienced rider of the 2008 MotoGP field, who turns 35 this Friday, made a great start before settling into a strong and consistent race pace. The Suzuki star later came under pressure from the likes of James Toseland and Andrea Dovizioso as his grip levels dropped, but Capirossi managed to overcome the pair of MotoGP rookies with a brave overtaking manoeuvre on the final corner, to earn praise from his new boss.

`We didn´t have the pace to run right at the very front, but we knew that would be the case,´ Denning told motogp.com. `Starting from the fourth row is always going to be difficult, but Loris made a fantastic, aggressive start and got himself into a good position. But in the second half of the race we struggled a bit with grip.´

`Nonetheless, Loris justified today why we wanted him here with Suzuki. He has helped us so much with the development of the bike and that is one side of racing. The other side is like when you have a race such as today´s. His aggression levels to try to get the best result possible were like an 18 year-old´s! I think with more grip we´d now have a reasonably competitive machine so the confidence is growing.´

Capirossi´s team-mate Chris Vermeulen, meanwhile, had an equally eventful race on Sunday. Starting 12th on the grid the Aussie battled his way through the field to seventh and was catching the riders in front of him, but grip became a problem for him too and he was eventually forced to settle for 10th place.

Denning commented, `Chris is capable of getting results like Loris got, no question. He was catching Loris and Andrea Dovizioso with seven or eight laps to go and I thought fifth or sixth would be possible, but he had taken a risk with his rear tyre choice. He went with a softer compound and Bridgestone warned us it would be difficult in the latter stages. In the end it was impossible to push any harder.´
