Bradl could add family name to fathers and sons winners list

With German 125cc rider Stefan Bradl starting the season with a podium finish in Qatar and fourth place at Jerez, it could be just a matter of time before the Grizzly Gas Kiefer youngster and his father Helmut join the list of fathers and sons to have won World Championship races.

With German 125cc rider Stefan Bradl starting the season with a podium finish in Qatar and fourth place at Jerez, it could be just a matter of time before the Grizzly Gas Kiefer youngster and his father Helmut join the list of fathers and sons to have won World Championship races.

If the teenage single cylinder competitor can step onto the top of the podium, the Stefan and Helmut Bradl pairing would become the sixth father-son combination to have both recorded Grand prix victories.

The motogp.com statisticians have picked out the key figures relating to the five father-son duos already on that list and also offers a few facts on Helmut Bradl's GP career:

Nello Pagani (2 x 125cc, 2 x 500cc wins)
Alberto Pagani (3 x 500cc wins)

Nello Pagani won the very first 125cc World title back in 1949 and missed out on winning the 500cc title in the same year by a single point. Alberto Pagani's best year was 1972 when he finished second in the 500cc World Championship as team-mate to Giacomo Agostini riding for MV-Agusta.

Les Graham (1 x 125cc, 2 x 350cc, 5 x 500cc wins)
Stuart Graham (1 x 50cc, 1 x 125cc wins)

Les Graham holds the distinction of winning the first ever 500cc World Title in 1949. He later lost his life while racing at the Isle of Man TT races in 1953. Both of Stuart Graham's GP wins came in 1967, when he finished third in both the 50cc and 125cc Championships riding for Suzuki.

Graziano Rossi (3 x 250cc wins)
Valentino Rossi (12 x 125cc, 14 x 250cc, 62 x MotoGP/500cc)

Graziano Rossi scored his three GP victories in 1979 riding for the Morbidelli factory. He also scored two podium finishes in the 500cc class before having his career cut short due to injury.

Kenny Roberts (2 x 250cc, 22 x 500cc)
Kenny Roberts Jnr (8 x 500cc wins)

Kenny Roberts Snr was the first rider from the USA to win the 500cc World title. Kenny Roberts Jnr won the 500cc title in 2000 to make this the only father and son combination to have both won World Championship titles in Grand Prix racing.

Angel Nieto (27 x 50cc, 1 x 80cc, 62 x 125cc wins)
Pablo Nieto (1 x 125cc win)

Angel Nieto, with 90 GP wins and 13 World Championships to his name, is the second most successful racer of all time. Pablo Nieto's single 125cc Grand Prix victory came at the Portuguese GP in 2003.

Helmut Bradl (5 x 250cc wins)
Helmut Bradl competed exclusively in the 250cc class riding a Honda. He made a total of 84 Grand Prix starts from his debut in 1986 to his retirement at the end of the 1993 season. His best year was 1991 when he scored five victories and finished second in the final championship standings behind Luca Cadalora.
