Vermeulen visits Switzerland with Oakley en route to Estoril

An improvement on his disastrous Qatar result with a top ten finish at round two in Jerez means Rizla Suzuki´s Chris Vermeulen will be aiming to add to his points tally on Sunday in Portugal.

An improvement on his disastrous Qatar result with a top ten finish at round two in Jerez means Rizla Suzuki´s Chris Vermeulen will be aiming to add to his points tally on Sunday in Portugal.

Before attentions turned to Estoril the Australian rider stayed on in Andalusia for two days of testing after the Spanish GP and last weekend he was a guest at the Baselworld 2008 Watch and Jewellery Show, in Basel, Switzerland, with his personal watch sponsor Oakley, who are also the Official Sunglasses Supplier for the MotoGP World Championship.

`I have been with Oakley for a number of years now and their watches are great for my lifestyle,´ Vermeulen said. `They are functional and look good as well as being pretty tough, which is an important factor for me when I'm out working on my cars or messing about in the ocean.´

Although Estoril sits just a few kilometres from the Atlantic Ocean, Vermeulen will be firmly focussed on land-based matters this weekend as he goes about attempting to improve upon his best result of ninth thus far on Portuguese soil.

Looking ahead to the bwin.com Grande Premio de Portugal the 25 year-old from Brisbane commented, `We certainly made some progress at the test after the race at Jerez. We worked hard on tyres and we learned a lot from the test that will help us in the future. I cannot wait to get back on the bike and start getting the results that I expect of myself this year.´
