On a fine run of form in the 250cc class –boosted by a surprise victory in Jerez two weeks ago- Mika Kallio is one of the favourites for success in the quarter litre bwin.com Grande Premio de Portugal.

The Finnish rider was a non-finisher in last year´s race, owing to an engine problem on his 250cc Portuguese debut, but remains adamant that the track is still favourable to both himself and the Red Bull KTM.

`I won my first 125cc race here in 2005, so I have some good memories of Portugal,´ said Kallio ahead of his first free practice session in Estoril.

`The track suits our KTM, apart from the last few turns. I´m hoping that everything this year can be a little bit better.´

Kallio´s run of podium finishes this season takes in second place in Qatar and a win in Jerez, following on from an impressive end to 2007. The former 125cc runner-up was victorious in the final race of last year, held in Valencia, and has won three out of the last six races (his other triumph coming in Japan). On his chances of making it three wins from as many European races, the Finn once again went back to the final corners of the Estoril track.

`Things are looking better than last year with the bike. Like I say, we aren´t as good in the last section, but if we can improve this then who knows what can happen,´ said the ice cold Kallio.
