Marquez ready to make belated Grand Prix debut

Three races into the 2008 season, Repsol KTM rookie Marc Marquez finally makes his debut in the 125cc category.

Three races into the 2008 season, Repsol KTM rookie Marc Marquez finally makes his debut in the 125cc category. The Spaniard had been set to make his debut in Qatar just days after his 15th birthday, but a last minute injury has until now postponed his maiden outing in the lower cylinder class.

`I'm looking forward to riding in Portugal, because it was a shame not to be able to ride the first two races,´ said the diminutive Marquez ahead of his lower cylinder class premiere.

`I've done my best to recover from my injury and can't wait for my debut in Estoril with the World Championship riders. I hope I'm in good shape, though I know I won't be 100 per cent. The doctors have told me I'm fit to race, as the bone has healed, and I feel strong enough to ride the bike.´

Mentor and Team Manager Raul Jara was happy to see Marquez back in action, and was keen for his charge to display his talents in Estoril.

`Marc´s crash in Jerez at the Official Test was a strange one, because he did it on a wet track coming back to the pits. Normally a fall at 40mph wouldn´t do much damage, but he broke his arm and needed an operation.

`We were trying to get him back for Qatar, which was impossible, and then when he got kitted out for Jerez he decided that he would prefer to wait a little longer. Now he´s ready to come back to riding, which isn´t a problem because it is better to be in good condition than force things.´
