Toseland thinks pneumatic valves can bring Portuguese podium

Having been down on power and high on fever in Jerez, James Toseland is looking forward to a faster and healthier weekend in Portugal.

Having been down on power and high on fever in Jerez, James Toseland is looking forward to a faster and healthier weekend in Portugal.

The Tech 3 Yamaha team of the British rookie and experienced veteran Colin Edwards have been given a pneumatic engine for the race in Estoril, meaning that Toseland should no longer be playing catch-up along the straights.

`I have the new pneumatic valve engine this week. We just bolted them onto the bike yesterday! Yamaha had said that it would arrive for Estoril as the worst case scenario, and they kept to their word so I'm grateful for that,´ said the superbike champion, who has nearly recovered from a bout of bronchitis that hindered him in Jerez.

Toseland´s opening two races in MotoGP have come at tracks where he has had the opportunity to test -in the case of Qatar where he has also raced before- but Portugal presents a new challenge for the 27 year-old.

`I´ve never ridden here before, but I know that with the new engine I have a bike that can challenge for the podium. It´s up to me now,´ he concluded.

Toseland has finished sixth in both of his MotoGP rides to date, including a front row start for his debut race in Qatar.
