This weekend the Valencia Grand Prix circuit will host the opening round of Spanish national championship, known in Spain as the CEV, with 2008 Red Bull MotoGP Academy riders Cameron Beaubier and Danny Kent all set to take part.

The CEV is regarded as one of the best domestic competitions in the world and has served as a key training ground for the likes of reigning World Champion Casey Stoner (Ducati Marlboro) and his fellow MotoGP competitors Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda) and Jorge Lorenzo (Fiat Yamaha) – the Spanish pair who currently lead the World Championship.

In addition to riders from Spain the 2008 CEV entry list contains the names of competitors from nine other countries including France, Germany, Japan, Mexico, the UK and the US. Academy attendees Beaubier and Kent will utilise the competition to gain valuable racing experience with the aim of eventually making the move into the World Championship.

The Spanish championship comprises several categories, though Beaubier and Kent will focus solely on the 125cc class onboard their Red Bull sponsored KTM machinery – with Sunday´s 18-lap single cylinder Valencia race commencing at 2pm local time.
