Romagnoli and Amatriain praise Lorenzo

Romagnoli and Amatriain praise Lorenzo

Jorge Lorenzo received special praise from two of the men helping him in his quest for MotoGP glory, after his scorching maiden premier class victory at Estoril last weekend.

Although Jorge Lorenzo has been under the knife since his debut MotoGP win in Portugal it is hoped that he will recover fast enough to be competitive at round four in China, as he attempts to maintain his momentum after the Estoril victory - which amazed even his own Fiat Yamaha Team Manager Daniele Romagnoli.

After recording his first MotoGP triumph at just the third time of asking, Lorenzo had his right forearm operated on in Barcelona to correct ‘arm pump' symptoms and he believes he will be fit enough to fight at the front end at Shanghai, having earned universal praise for his dramatic Portuguese performance.

Reacting to the Grande Premio de Portugal achievement, Romagnoli enthused, `The result of the race was really incredible. Unbelievable! We were really hoping for a result like that, but it is just amazing what happened.´

On Lorenzo´s rapid adaptation to premier class competition, Romagnoli continued, `He had a very good feeling with our MotoGP bike from the beginning and he got to understand quickly how to ride the 4-stroke. He had to learn the electronics, and the tyres are more complicated than in the 250cc category, but he has adapted very well. Also, the team did a great job, and Yamaha as well, with getting the bike right for him.´

`Jorge´s riding style is very smooth and clean,´ said Romagnoli of the qualities that had helped Lorenzo stay ahead of Dani Pedrosa and Valentino Rossi in Portugal. `He never asks too much of the tyres, especially the rear tyre. He tries to avoid any spin. So his riding style is one of the keys to being very fast. Of course you need the track to be free (empty) to ride this way, not to be fighting with others, but once he is in front he can go very fast.´

Meanwhile, Lorenzo´s manager Dani Amatriain added, `We´re very happy and satisfied to get this win. We never thought it would be possible at the start of the season but Jorge has made some tremendous progress since the beginning of the Championship.´

`Now we have to keep our feet on the ground, whilst enjoying the moment. We have to think about China of course. After this result the situation is great, but we still have to consider this season as a learning year, so we won´t be rushing things. For now we have to be realistic and enjoy those kind of moments.´
