Toseland looking forward to tough period

Toseland looking forward to tough period

With plenty of support from Michelin and Yamaha, James Toseland is approaching a challenging stage of the season in good spirits.

One of the key qualities that James Toseland has brought with him to the Tech3 Yamaha team in his rookie MotoGP season is his diligent work ethic and his thirst for learning will be vital during the forthcoming stage of the season.

Learning the MotoGP circuits is a big part of Toseland´s challenge in his maiden campaign and setting his standards high the English rider was disappointed to only finish seventh at Estoril on his updated M1 machinery last weekend, despite never having ridden at the tricky Portuguese track before last Friday.

The experience will be repeated in the upcoming rounds as the season gathers pace as Toseland encounters more new circuits without the benefit of prior test visits, which he had at Qatar and Jerez.

`It´s going to be a tough time,´ admitted Toseland. `I´ve got Shanghai, which I´ve never been to next, and tracks like Mugello and Catalunya which I´ve never been to, but we´ve got to do the best we can.´

With his tyre suppliers providing plenty of support and Yamaha fully behind the Tech3 cause Toseland spoke enthusiastically about the collected effort being made after rounding off his Estoril visit in 11th place on the timesheet in Monday´s post-GP test – having improved on his lap times from earlier in the weekend.

`Michelin are doing a great job and the improvements they are making are quite incredible really,´ the 27 year-old told motogp.com. `To say that we are getting close to qualifying times on race tyres, and consistently as well, those are the kind of improvements they are making. A big thank you has to go to Michelin.´

`Obviously we´ve got a new engine now from Yamaha which is working much better. It´s much stronger so if I can make time up in a straight line that´s the easy part of my job!´
