Olive in great form with Belson Derbi

Having moved to Belson Derbi over the winter Joan Olive has commenced the campaign with two podium finishes in three rounds, his best ever start to a season.

After signing for the Belson Derbi team for the 2008 season, 125cc rider Joan Olive has made an excellent start to the year, with second place finishes in Qatar and Portugal.

Having only made four previous podium appearances in his eight-year career in the 125cc and 250cc classes, recent results mean 2008 has seen Olive make his best ever start to a season and the 23 year-old Catalan rider was in a buoyant mood when he caught up with motogp.com this week.

Even a crash on Spanish soil at Jerez has not dampened his spirits, as his two runner-up spots at rounds one and three mean he currently sits third in the provisional standings, behind the Jack & Jones WRB pairing of Simone Corsi and Nico Terol.

`Everything is really positive at the moment,´ said Olive. `Right from the first day of preseason I felt comfortable on the bike and with the team. Although we didn´t over-analyse my lap times we knew we were heading in the right direction and we have been able to show that in the opening three races. Things went well in Qatar and Portugal, even in Jerez until we had a bit of bad luck.´

`I´m very happy with the bike. I really like the way it performs and I think its potential is great. We need to work as hard as possible as a team from now until the end of the season to get the best results from it as possible,´ he continued.

Commenting on working within the Belson Derbi team, Olive added, `They are very professional and take the work seriously. I really like the way of working we have and it´s an honour to ride for Derbi. Also, Dani (Amatriain) is the boss and working with friends in the team makes things easy.´

Thinking about his aims for the rest of the 2008 campaign, Olive stated, `Our only objective is to keep improving. Every time I got out on track I have to focus on becoming a better rider. I don´t want to judge things just by results because the competition is tough and there are so many other factors to take into consideration.´
