Guintoli stops in at Le Mans

Ducati rider Sylvain Guintoli will be one of the home riders at the Alice Grand Prix de France next month and he called in at Le Mans on Tuesday to speak at a press conference ahead of the event.

Alice Team´s French MotoGP star Sylvain Guintoli is looking forward to his home race next month and he was in attendance at Le Mans on Tuesday for an Alice Grand Prix de France preview event, where he spoke about his expectations for the round five contest on 18th May.

Of course the Ducati rider has the fourth round of the season in China early next month to get out of the way first - with the 25 year-old still trying to find his form with his new team after some rather modest results so far.

However, Guintoli is already excited about the return to Le Mans, where he briefly held the lead in last year´s race before being caught out by the slippery track conditions in the rain-affected contest.

`I am really proud to be here at Le Mans and to represent my country in MotoGP. It´s a true honour. It is always a pleasure for me to be here and I am looking forward to coming back soon for the Alice Grand Prix.´

`Le Mans is home for me,´ he continued. `I have raced here many times and it´s one of the best tracks for me. The weather can change at any time making each race unique.´

Guintoli also commented on some recent changes made to the track, having seen the Garage Vert corner redesigned to accommodate larger gravel traps. `I think that each time a track has some modifications, even small ones, it makes it more fun for us riders and for the fans,´ he said.

`It´s a new challenge. To learn which is the best way to attack the turn or chicane, where and how to pass your opponent or how to defend your position. Or simply to learn how the new asphalt reacts. It´s like having a new toy to play with.´

Reminiscing about the 2007 French GP, Guintoli added, `Last year things were going really well for me, until you know what happened. I was in first position on lap six, it was an incredible feeling and I hope I will be able to try for the same sensation in this year´s race.´

`I really can´t wait to be here to race, although first we must concentrate on China, on a track which should be good for our Ducati-Bridgestone package and where I am hoping to keep improving.´
